Heating

Winter is a couple of months away. You may be asking yourself, how cold will it get in South Alabama this year, will my heating system be ready, and what will my energy bill be?

Well, we at Action Heating and Air Conditioning want you to know that heating your home uses more energy than any other system in your home. It typically utilizes 29% of your overall energy bill.

Here are some things you can do to help when winter arrives.

  • Set your thermostats appropriately. If you have programmable thermostats, set their setpoints lower when you are sleeping or away from home. If you have a heat pump heating system, you just set your temperature. Your heat pump is efficient and will adjust appropriately.
  • If you have a furnace, clean or replace the air filters each month during the winter.
  • Be sure and turn off bath and kitchen exhaust fans within 20 to 25 minutes after you bath or cook something.
  • During the day keep your curtains open to allow sunlight to enter your home, but be sure and close them at night to keep the cold out that you may feel from open windows.
  • Make sure your warm air registers are not blocked by furniture or drapes.

We at Action Heating and Air Conditioning hope this information was helpful. Please remember that bi-annual maintenance by a trained professional HVAC system expert can help in many ways.

  • Ensure that your system is working at its best efficiency during the winter and summer months.
  • Helping your system in terms of lowering your energy consumption.
  • Help prevent expensive HVAC system repairs in the future.
