Cool Weather Is Here- My Heating System?

Cool Weather is Here- My Heating System? Well, we suddenly have gone from scorching hot weather to real fall weather which in South Alabama has not been seen in many years. The big question is will we really have a true winter in 2023-2024. Some people say we will have the coldest winter in years, it is still questionable.

So just to be safe, it would be a good idea to be prepared. In being prepared for winter your central heating system is a major component of being ready. So how do you ensure that our heating system is prepared for the winter ahead?

  • Check your outside coils. This should be done every 6 months. If your coils are not clean, the system will not absorb the heat from the atmosphere.
  • Always check your air filters every month to ensure they do not need to be changed. Being changed regularly if needed helps with the air flow through your system.

Some people think regular maintenance by a professional HVAC technician is over kill, but I will assure you that with regular maintenance the changes of your system failing is less likely.

We at Action Heating and Air Conditioning offer an affordable maintenance program to fit your needs and budget. Our technicians have been thoroughly trained to perform the needed services to ensure your HVAC system is ready for whatever winter we will have this year.

We have been serving the Mobile, Semmes, Theodore, Daphne, Fairhope, Silverhill, Foley, Robertsdale, Loxley, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and surrounding areas in South Alabama since 1997. Your HVAC System-Fall is Finally Here

HVAC system

Fall is here and its finally time to give your HVAC system a break. Your air conditioner has been working overtime the last few months with the unbearable heat wave we have experienced this summer. With all this said it is time to consider fall maintenance to ensure your system is working well and ready for whatever winter months we experience this year.

It is always best to have a professional HVAC company have their expert technicians check your system at least twice a year, in the fall and spring times.

Here are some things you can do yourself to help your system work properly.

  • Change your filters often, at least every other month they need to be checked and possibly replaced.
  • Keep your outside units free of debris with enough open space as possible around them.
  • Keep your air registers and ducts free of dust and any debris.
  • Use fans as much as possible to give your HVAC system a break.
  • Listen for strange noises that may be a warning. Try to locate where they are and what the source of the noise may be. If you can’t locate the source, check the list of common HVAC noises and if it is something you can fix.

With all this said it is still a good idea to consider the semi-annual maintenance program that most quality HVAC system professionals offer. It may save you on some costly repairs down the road.

We at Action Heating and Air Conditioning hope that this information was helpful.

Baldwin County continues to be a leader within the State of Alabama as it relates to growth in population. From 2021 to 2022 Baldwin County grew by more than 7000 people. Its growth is nothing new. Since the census in 2010 Baldwin County has growth by 34.6%. It also climbed the list of the largest counties in Alabama going from 7th in 2010 to 4th in 2022. So, what does this mean to you, a resident of Baldwin County Alabama? Well, if you are a new resident of the county, it means you have a great deal of retail outlets to choose from that are mostly only found only in larger communities. Heat Wave Need That Air Conditioner

air conditioner

The Summer Heat takes a major toll on how your air conditioner works in this extreme heat we are now facing. Below are some key things to remember to help your air conditioner work efficiently:

1. Keep your filter absolutely clean during this elevated outdoor temperature.

2. Make sure the outdoor unit is perfectly clean of dirt, grass, and lint.

3: Keep curtains and shades drawn to keep out direct sunlight especially from midday to sundown.

4. If the outdoor unit coil is exposed to direct sunlight, try to shade it with lattice fencing several feet from the unit for clearance and cleaning. Many units have louvered surroundings to prevent direct sunlight, many do not.

5. The cooling coils, condenser coils and condensate drain lines should be cleaned long before June through September. Fall and early spring are the best times to have these units cleaned while the attics are cool and there is less stress on the Mechanic and Customer.

6. Treat your service men well during this time of extreme heat. They are overworked and exhausted with no relief in sight until late October. Be Kind to Your Service Technician Please!

Heat – How to beat It this Summer.

Heat thsi Summer

The heat wave in South Alabama is not appear to be going away. We are getting heat alerts daily and every city is putting out caution warning about water usage outdoors.

So, with this said what do we need to do to still enjoy the remainder of our Summer with relief not coming until mid or late September.

We at Action Heating and Air Conditioning want to share a few commonsense tips to help you stay safe while enjoying the great outdoors in this Summer’s heat.

First let’s talk about what you need to be on the lookout for as it pertains to heat exhaustion. Here are the common symptoms:

Heavy Sweating, Paleness, Muscles Cramps, Weakness, Fainting, Headaches, and finally Nausea or Vomiting.

Here are some precautions you can take to avoid heat exhaustion.

  • Most Importantly Stay Hydrated

Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially before starting the day and then regularly throughout the day. You should avoid a great deal of alcohol and caffeine which work to dehydrate you. Try to drink at least 2 glasses of water every hour if possible. Keeping a water bottle next to you all day can be a big help in reminding you of the need to drink water regularly throughout the day. Make sure your bottle can help maintain the coolest of your water as long as possible.

  • Dress Lightly

Wear light weight, light colored clothing that fits loosely. Always try to wear a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun not only off your head but as well off your face. They have developed fabrics that can help with this as well.

  • Apply Sunscreen

Not only does wearing the proper clothing helps, but you should also apply sunscreen to protect yourself. Sunburn can not only hurt but can be hazardous to your health. Be sure to cover those sunburn prone areas well, your nose, ears, and back of your neck.

  • Take Breaks

If you are doing work or exercising be sure and take breaks often. Realize when any of the above symptoms may start occurring, it is definitely time to take a break. When taking a break look for a shady area where you can cool off.
